Who Bruised James?

Stumble Upon Toolbar

As I was reviewing the books of the New Testament with Piccolina, our 8 yr. old told us that when she was a kid, you know, last year, she thought that the portion that goes "..Hebrews, James.." was actually a sentence. "He bruised James."

She spent a lot of time wondering who bruised James.

That reminded me that when I was a child I used to think the familiar old saying was: "Finders keepers. Losers sweepers." I had no idea why, but I thought if a person lost something, they should start sweeping immediately.

Maybe they would find the lost item in the debris.

I also wondered why, in the shortest verse in the Bible, Jesus would have been sweeping when His good friend had just died.

I would have been bawling!

"When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things." (1 Corinthians 13:11)

When I was a child I thought it was "father, son, and whole wheat toast!" My mother almost died laughing one day as we were singing the doxology. Another one was I truly thought Volleyball was BollyBall till middle school!

How funny!

Just the other day we were discussing how our 4 yr old's memory verses are from the King James Version of the Bible.

His question?

"Who's Keith James?"

My youngest thought it was
Shadrach, Meshach and a billy goat.
It's hard not to laugh, sometimes!

In the song "This World is not my home" I thought "the angels beckon me" was "the angels pecking me" and wondered why they'd do that "from heaven's open door." You know the song? You know what I'm talking about.

We have loved singing these songs to memorize the books of the bible. My 4 yo and 2 yo know them all! You click on the MP3 link to hear the song. There's one for the OT and a different one for the NT.
