Boxes and Boxes of Free Books!

Stumble Upon Toolbar

Our library has a book sale a couple of times a year, and we always try to go and pick up a few bargains.

Last week, we went and found 3 boxes of biographies, history books, books on the animal kingdom, science experiments, and art. Each book was 10 or 25 cents depending on the size.

I was thrilled to get so many good books, but I kept wondering what would become of the books that I had left behind. I called the library and found out that the Salvation Army would be picking up the books that no one bought. I was told that if I showed up on the morning of the pick up, before the pick up was made, I could have any books I wanted. FOR FREE!

I was excited to think of finding a few books that might round out our home library. After all, I had left some desired books behind so as not to spend too much.

When I got to the library early that rainy morning, my excitement turned to ecstasy. I was led to a locked room with over 100 labeled boxes of books waiting for a new home.

The children and I set to work going through the boxes one by one, and an hour later we had 8 boxes of books ready to take home! My son loaded 2 dollies with the boxes and wheeled them out to Hogzilla. We are still in the process of shelving them.

Here are just a few of the titles we got:

  • Alfred the Great
  • George Washington Carver, Scientist
  • Leif Eriksson
  • Hannibal
  • Catherine the Great
  • Cortez of Mexico
  • The Voyages of Christopher Columbus
  • The Incas
  • The Golden Days of Greece
  • Better Known as Johnny Appleseed
  • Boys' Life of Mark Twain
  • All Colour Book of Henry VIII
  • The Confederacy
  • The Sun Kingdom of the Aztecs
  • Frederic Chopin, Son of Poland
  • Abe Lincoln Grows Up
  • Colonial New Jersey
  • Daniel Boone, Wilderness Scout
  • Cochise
  • Halley's Comet
  • Wonders of Zebras
  • Wonders of Hippos
  • This is the History of Money
  • Our National Parks
  • The American Alligator
  • Wonders of Alligators and Crocodiles
  • Windmills
  • Five Little Peppers and How They Grew
  • C.W. Anderson's Complete Book of Horses and Horsemanship
  • Light Horse Keeping
  • The Hunter in Pictures
  • Eats, Shoots & Leaves

There are many, many more I haven't listed here that were all FREE just because we asked. These are all hard back library bound books!

Ask your librarian what happens to the books that are pulled from the shelves to make room for new books. You may be able to get these for very little money, or even free.

Oh my word! I know what you mean about being so excited about all those cool free books! My dh wouldn't like me trucking home more books - but I'd be pretty thrilled to come across a deal like you got.

Now you have to build on for a library of you own. Wouldn't that be cool. I have no room for books like that. Your are so lucky.
