Have you ever noticed how newborn babies love to sleep in your arms or snuggled up on your chest, but as soon as you put them in their bed, they immediately wake up? Well, wouldn't you wake up if you were nice and warm one minute and then put down on a cold mattress the next?
I even turn on my electric blanket about an hour before I go to bed so it will be nice and toasty for me when I finally crawl in. That brings me to this week's Works For Me tip.
I have used this little trick on several of my babies and it has worked like a charm. I simply place a heating pad in baby's cradle to warm up the mattress where she will be laying. When it is time to put her to bed, I *remove the heating pad and she has a nice warm place to sleep.
Now, if someone will kindly send a memo to this baby, so she will follow the proper protocol, I surely would appreciate it!
*I only use the heating pad to warm the mattress. I remove it and turn it off before putting the baby down.

i do something similar -- it seems to work well. sometimes we also put the baby down with the shirt of the person holding said sleeping baby. the smell seems to help too.
Excellent ideas (heating pad and also the shirt)!
That is a great tip! I wish I had heard that when my kids were babies...
Actually I just started doing this for my 10yr old - we have an electric blanket on our bed and he often crawls in there with me and started complaining that he didn't have a nice warm bed.
He has a half hour to read before bed each night - that is when I have the heating pad in there on low - then I take it out. It makes a nice warm spot for him to snuggle into and I find he goes to sleep faster too.
Love, love, love this idea! I am not sure why I have not thought of this. I will implement tonight!!! My sons say thank you.
Good idea! Nothing frustrates a Mommy like baby's eyes popping open when being laid down!
What a sweet and cozy idea!
Another trick (from someone whose children do not believe in sleeping) is to put an egg crate mattress on their bed (I am a rule follower so I wait until they are over a year). But it makes their mattress a bit more soft and perhaps they might spend some time on it..
makes me want another baby just to try it out... just kidding.
We did the same thing with our kids. It was a tip my Grandmother suggested to me when my oldest was a newborn and woke up every single time I would put her in her crib.
oooooooooooohhhhhhhh, i wish you were my mommy! that sounds cozy indeed!
i used to heat the baby wipes in the microwave for about three seconds in the winter time. it used to make me cringe to think of being swiped with an icy wet cloth when i was already cold.
What a great idea! I wish you had posted this 18 months ago. :D
