No, Silly! This is not a post about government spending. It's a recipe!
We like Mexican Mess in our family and have it often. (It is a ground beef mixture served over tortilla chips and topped with shredded cheese. Be sure to check out the recipe.)
This week, however, MaddieLynn came up with a variation of that recipe when she decided to have her Sloppy Joe mixture served over ridged potato chips and topped with cheese.
She dubbed her creation "American Mess".
I tried it and it was quite tasty and there was no worry about the meat falling out of the bun!
Here is our Sloppy Joe recipe (from the Betty Crocker Cookbook):
1 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 cup celery (I left this out.)
1 cup ketchup
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (I used more.)
1 teaspoon ground mustard (I was out, so used squeeze mustard.)
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1. Cook beef, onion, and celery in a skillet. Drain.
2. Stir in remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Sounds delish, especially on a cold Friday night like this one.
