Shine, Jesus, Shine

Stumble Upon Toolbar

Our oldest two children are participating in a program wherein they compete( along with about 6,000 other children) in Bible memory quizzes and a capella four part harmony singing performances on Easter weekend.

I'm not saying we are a competitive family, but they have been studying the FIRE out of the gospel of John (the topic of the Bible Bowl) and they are ready to DOMINATE that section of the program. All I know is those other children are goin' dowwwwwn.

And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

So, anyway, on Wednesday night of this week we met up at the church building to eat with the other church members and have Bible class, where we were expecting to hear those children involved in "chorus" present the songs they had been practicing.

At some point during the fellowship meal, all the lights in the entire building went out. Everyone wondered what had happened and we eventually heard that the lights in the entire city were also out.

We all finished eating in the large room that was now being lit only by the skylights above.

It was decided by the elders that, since there could obviously be no classes held in the dark, that we would all worship together in the fellowship hall, and we all got busy arranging chairs to do just that.

We sang and prayed in the dark and then the choral group moved to the front to present the three songs they have been practicing.

The last song was Shine, Jesus, Shine, and, I could not make this up if I tried, when they got to the chorus, as they sang "Shine, Jesus, ..." as soon as they sang "Shine" the lights in the entire building came on at that precise moment!

There was a very audible gasp, but the members of the chorus kept right on singing. Then, an unplanned applause broke out, which caused the chorus to sing even louder, with beaming smiles.

It was very cool!

Hear an instrumental version of Shine, Jesus, Shine.

Shine Jesus Shine
(Graham Kendrick)

Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the World shine upon us
Set us free by the truth You now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me

Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth Your word, Lord and let there be light

Lord, I come to Your awesome presence
From the shadows into Your radiance
By the blood I may enter Your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me

Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth Your word, Lord and let there be light

As we gaze on Your kingly brightness
So our faces display Your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell Your story
Shine on me, shine on me

Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth Your word, Lord and let there be light

Good Luck to the two oldest, and may they be good winners and/or losers. I wish I could be there for the Easter program, but I gotta work that day. Hopefully you will video it and we can see it on your blog... Just sayin'.
