More Red Envelope Project

Stumble Upon Toolbar

We decided to work on our red envelopes this weekend, so they would be ready to mail on March 31.

I started out by checking at Staples, our only office supply store, for red envelopes. They didn't have any, and the checker said she had been asked by several people about them.

I asked her if she had heard of the Red Envelope Project and she hadn't, so I told on March 31, people all over our nation will be mailing red envelopes to President Barack Obama to represent the millions of babies that have been killed by abortion. (Click on the link for more information.)

Next, I checked Wal Mart for red envelopes and didn't have any luck there, either. As we were standing in the check out line, my mom suggested that we could make envelopes out of red wrapping paper. I stayed in line and she found a roll of red wrapping paper for under $3.

When we got home, I unstuck a plain envelope and used it as a pattern to trace around, and the kids got busy cutting those out.

We taped them up and used Kim's printable address link. MaddieLynn then had the idea to print out the message for the back using the same printable format.

This is what we ended up with. (Click to enlarge.)

Hi!
Since you started putting the message on the outside of the envelope, you could use red card stock. Of course, red post card project doesn't SOUND as cool as the red envelope project, but postcards are also cheaper to mail.

That would be cheaper, Suz, but then the symbolism of being empty would be lost.

This is so cool and I love that you guys were able to think of using wrapping paper to make the envelopes--so cool.

Wow! I've never even heard of this project! You are dedicated by making the envelopes! I think I would have taken red finger paint and let my 2 yo go to town on them! lol

I was kind of excited to hear that you couldn't find red envelopes, maybe that means that people are buying them for this project.
I had 8 red envelopes left over from Christmas, so I sent those, thinking that was enough. But after seeing how many you and your kids did, I think I should go make some more!
Thanks for spreading the word.

Does anyone know how the project went...about how many envelopes were received at the White House?
