Mrs. Baird's Thrift Store

Stumble Upon Toolbar

We never buy bread at the grocery store. If I have the time and the inclination, I make it, which is the most frugal way of all. With lots of littles, though, I am often short on both time and inclination. Thankfully, we have a Mrs. Baird's Thrift Store in our small town and a freezer in our garage. Those two are a match made in heaven.

We can get a great variety of loaves, 4 for $3.00. Blueberry bagels, cinnamon raisin bread, whole wheat, Texas toast, and seven grain are some of our favorites. For every $5 spent, up to $20, we get a free loaf.

Since we have a freezer, we can load up on what we like and check back often for new selections.

Ohhh, I love Mrs. Baird's bread. They make the BEST bread of all. I live in Oklahoma now and we don't have Mrs. Bairds here. :(

My family loves the Butter Rings. Yum! There's just no substitution.

I am not envious or anything ;)

Oooooh, I can't even remember the last time I was in a Mrs. Baird's thrift store. We don't have one here, but oh if we did....

Do you wrap your bread in any special way before freezing? I've hesitated to stock up on bread after having to make do eating some dried out loaves.

argh... why does it seem like we must abandon one of two principles while shopping? Frugality (in my neck of the woods) means high fructose corn syrup and modified ickies that (I believe) God didn't intend for me to eat. However, holding to that conviction pushes me towards bread that rests in the $3/loaf category. Is there a reconciliation here? (I do mostly make my own bread, but I also have little ones and more duties than I can fit into most days)

We don't have a Mrs. Bairds...but we do have a bread store where we do the same thing.

Isn't it GREAT?

p.s. Are you making coffee a regular part of the kids' breakfast now? I dunno....it makes them sound so HAPPY and CHEERFUL! :)

The closest one to me is 611 miles away! Bummer!

Oh well...we do have the Hostess outlet in our town and they have cheap bread too! I need to go back and visit there! (JUST FOR BREAD!)

*LOL!*
