Who's Your Daddy?

Stumble Upon Toolbar

This is a true story which I think illustrates a man's capacity to "git'r done" more effectively than a woman's. Sorry, ladies, but sometimes a little testosterone is required!

Recently, my husband called a local company to have some firewood delivered to our house. He requested 1/2 cord of Pinion Pine and 1 cord of Mesquite, stacked separately. (Yes, he's a little picky about his firewood!) He paid by credit card over the phone and was told when it would be delivered.

Later that week, a man rang my doorbell to tell me that my firewood was here, and I showed him where it was to be stacked. I heard a steady clunk, clunk, clunk as they stacked the wood, and then a knock at the door. The young man said they were through and asked if I would like to check it. I followed him around back and tried to look like I knew a cord and a half of firewood when I saw it. I paused for effect and then said it looked fine, thank you very much.

When my husband got home around supper time, he went out back to look at the stack of wood. He remarked that it did not look like it amounted to anywhere NEAR a cord and a half of wood. He sent our son to fetch the measuring tape, and sure enough, it amounted to a little less than a full cord.

Since it was supper time, all the businesses in town were closed for the day, so my husband got out the phone book and called the owner of the company at home. Hubby told him who he was and that he was a business owner himself and knows that any successful business puts a high priority on customer relations. Hubby went on to tell him what had happened and said that if one of his employees had cheated a customer, he would surely want it brought to his attention so that it could be made right.

The business owner thanked my husband for bringing it to his attention, apologized, and assured him that the situation would be corrected first thing the next day.

As promised, the next day, the same young man who had delivered the first batch of wood was at my door telling me that he had some more wood to stack. I thanked him and he went around back to finish the job. I kept hearing the methodical clunk, clunk, clunk of stacking wood until he knocked at the door. MaddieLynn answered since I was changing a diaper and told me that the man said he was finished and had asked if I wanted to check it again. I told MaddieLynn what to tell him and I heard her repeat my words. "My daddy will check it when he gets home."

I heard footsteps and then clunk, clunk, clunk.

This is great! How do you measure a cord, I haven't a clue?

I am laughing out loud! really! there was a news special on our local news a couple of years ago (back when we had cold winters) about the actual size of a cord and all. they ordered cords from five different companies and one, just ONE brought the correct amount. the other four were not even close. they showed what a real cord looked like and what the others had brought. said it was very common and easy to fool and rip people off. good one! and good hubby, too! way to git yer money's worth!

A cord of wood is supposed to be 4 ft. wide, 4 ft. high, and 8 ft. long.

So funny. I just looked up a cord of wood online for my husband the other day. Who knew it was actually so much?
