Make 3 Casseroles

Stumble Upon Toolbar

This week's "Works For Me" tip is a no-brainer. In fact, y'all probably already do this or have at least already heard about it, but it's the best I've got to offer right now.

Whenever I am making a casserole, whether it is lasagna, chicken spaghetti, or some other one-dish meal, I try to make three at once. We have one for dinner, and I stick the other two in the freezer. I label each one with the contents and date. This comes in handy on those busy days when I need a quick meal ready with minimal preparation. I can just go shopping in my freezer and pop one into the oven. Usually, an hour at 350 does the trick.

I use those disposable foil pans, if I have any on hand, for the freezer meals. That way, I have a ready made casserole to take to a family if a need arises (a birth, death, sickness, etc.) and no worries about losing my favorite casserole dish.

That's always a great idea, and one I hope to start implementing really soon!

I love this idea and I try it from time to time... but we usually end up eating all of them at once! I probably need to work on that!

This is a great tip! I like the idea of using the disposable pans. It's also nice to know what works from you when cooking from a frozen state. I always try to defrost first, and it takes FOREVER!

Thanks for sharing!

This is, as you say, an old but wonderful tip. I am terrible at following through, so I appreciate the reminder. Last week I made enchiladas and had extra ingredients ater filling a huge pan. I went right ahead and made a small container for the freezer. It happened by accident so I can't take any credit for it but it did remind me to make it a habit more often.

Thanks!

This is a great tip! I particularly like the idea of the disposable pans in the freezer to be ready for taking to people in need.

Great tip. More people need to know about the ease of such a practice. I still remember when I first discovered how to freeze meals when making lasagna. What a timesaver!

I do that, but I only make 1 extra, I should start doing more! It's not that much more work. Good idea using the foil pans too, I should do that.

I wish I did that more often. This is a great tip. Thanks for the reminder.

Connie,

I needed something new for dinner so I tried the Chicken Spaghetti (with minor alterations) last night. My family loved it. Thanks, we will definately try this again.
BTW- I didn't make 3, but the next time, I'll be more prepared.

I usually try to make enough for leftovers, but I should really follow this and expand it to be 3 real meals worth of food! Thanks for a great tip!
