There is a little shop in our small town, called Nearly New. It is a resale shop that offers clothes and furniture. I have driven by it often, but had never checked it out. Then, the other day, I heard someone say they had taken some things left over from a garage sale down to Nearly New.
Since most of my maternity clothes are from the 1900s(!), I have been wanting to pick up some more up to date pieces, and I decided yesterday to stop by and see what they had to offer. Boy, am I glad I did! They were having a 50% markdown to try to get rid of things to make room for fall consignments.
I got
- 2 dresses (one chambray and one dressier style)
- 2 pairs of capri pants
- 5 cute, feminine tops (3 of which are a dressy style)
all for $49.16! All of which looked like they had been rarely or never worn.
I know everyone can't spend that much on a wardrobe change, and there was a time when we couldn't afford to spend that much money, either. My point is, though, that the most expensive item, after the markdown, was $6.49!
Getting a "new" dress for church for under $7 is a fantastic bargain in my book! They also had lots of children's clothes and shoes. If you are looking for a very inexpensive way to purchase clothes, try resale or consignment shops when they are making room for the next season. You just might run into a jackpot.

So happy for you! That's a lot of great clothes for less than $50.
And of course, it's not only maternity wear, but also family clothing, toys and gear, equipment, furniture, decor items...
even fabric! that's available at consignment, resale, and thrift shops.
If you've never explored these home-town, friendly, and bargain-filled shops, you owe it to yourself. You can even turn your cluttered closets into cash. Check out the tips and Clickable Map at www.HowToConsign.com ... you'll love it!
Okay, I do have to remember we are living in the '00s--because when I read 1900's, I thought...wow she has vintage clothes from the 19th century. Duh!
You got a great deal on your 'new' duds. Heck, some people will pay that for one blouse, let alone all the goodies you got! Good for you!
that is *such* a cute bonnet! don't you wish that we still wore bonnets like they did way back when? i think they are charming; i wish i had an excuse to wear one!
We love thrift shops and nearly new shops - we call them 'experienced' items! Last week I bought unused big girls figure skates for $5 - they are $80 new - and a big bag full of children's clothes for $20 - about 5 'outfits' tops and bottoms! Thrifting is so fun, but you have to have the time to look through and pick what you like - often the store tags are still on them! It is like a different store every time you go in, so if you don't find what you like, try again another day!
Good for you! I adore the thrift shops and "used kid" stores around here. Sometimes the deals are out of this world.
Those were some great buys! Congratulations on finding them!
And thank you for entering my giveaway last week!
