Kid-Sized Furniture

Stumble Upon Toolbar

We have a little area that we call our school room where the kids usually get their work done. I had a standard kitchen table and four chairs where the kids could do art projects or write in their notebooks. If we had company over, we used that for extra eating space, too.

It worked fine, but I had been wanting a kid sized table with some smaller chairs, like the furniture in the children's section of our public library. I noticed that all of my children, from the baby all the way up to the 12 year old, could sit comfortably at those smaller tables.

When I checked out prices on the internet, though, I knew there was no way I could justify getting rid of a perfectly good table just because I wanted a different one. So, I was determined to keep my eyes open in case I might find what I was looking for at a garage sale or in the classifieds.

Sure enough, one day as I was looking through the classifieds in our small town newspaper, I noticed an ad selling furniture. A daycare was going out of business and needed to get rid of everything. I called and found exactly what I was looking for! The price was great, too.

There was just one hitch; the daycare was in a town a couple of hours from ours. I couldn't fit the furniture in the car with all of the kids, so loading everyone up to go get it was out of the question. Then again, I didn't want to leave them for that long to be so far away.

I asked the owner if she would hold a table and 4 chairs and 2 long bookcases for me while I figured out how to get them. She kindly agreed, and then my hunky husband came to my rescue. He drove out of his way after being out of town on a business trip to pick them up for me! (Thanks, Honey!)

You can see from the picture that it comfortably seats my 12 year old and my 1 year old. They love it, too. That's what "Works For Me". Click on the link for more great tips.

That's a very cool table. Great for years to come (judging from the cute little one)

Great idea there!! I'm going to have to try that out. Even I like to sit at the little tables in the library.

What a great find! I'm going to keep my eyes open for Daycare or preschool sales. Maybe I'll call and just ask if they get rid of things on a regular basis.
