Here are some Easter eggs we dyed. This site, Designer Easter Eggs, has instructions for all the techniques you see in the basket. (Thanks to Barbara for the link.) They were very simply done with items we already had around the house, like rubber bands and star stickers, and of course food coloring, vinegar, and a little vegetable oil for the marbleized ones.
These are some books we got at our library book sale recently. We only paid 10 - 25 cents each for these. Click on the picture to enlarge.
Just the other day as I was loading the dishwasher, I heard my sweet little five year old's voice behind me saying, "Mommy, look." This is what I saw when I turned around. A wad-o-snails.
After I jumped back, screeched, "Getthosethingsoutofhere!" and flapped my hands in front of my face a few times, you know, to disperse any snail cooties, I just had one word.
GUH-ROSS!

Okay. The snails really, really, really grossed me out, too! ACK!
Cool, but gross! :)
EEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Holly,
My kids lu-huv the snails! (Like the way I'm turning one syllable words into 2?) As for me, well, they give me the creeps! (shudder)
Ooops, Nikki, I commented at the same time you did.
I agree! Eeewwwwwww!
Nikki,
I hope you didn't mean "EEWWWWWW!" about the eggs or the books. 'Cause if you did, well, that would just be weird. Really, eggs and books are our friends.
:0)
Eggs and books are very cool. I love the designs on the eggs. And I clicked on the picture and love the selection of books.
so we won't be seeing a recipe for "connie's escargots" on this site anytime soon?
Hey Karen,
Now, there's an idea. I think I'll call the recipe, "Wad-o-Snails", so people wouldn't think I was "puttin' on airs" what with a french term and all.
Cool eggs!
Fantastic library sale finds!
you COULD just keep those snails -- feed 'em on oatmeal for 2 weeks, then starve them & they'd serve 4, with the right sauce -- "dinner on a budget" (just kidding, seriously)
We did eggs this year with those techniques and they turned out so cool! Much better than any store-bought package has ever turned out.
As for the snails - YUCK!
My boys reaction was "Sweet, a new pet"
Yeah! Those books made my jaw drop! I need to go find a good library book sale. What do you do when you run out of book space since you still have tiny children? I would love to have a "library" (full room or walk in closet).
Yum. I've eaten dead snails. Not that I'd order them myself, but it actually was pretty good with the flavor they had cooked it in.
Julie, We had lots of fun with our eggs this year. That site is the best!
Left and Honey, I could totally eat a snail if I were hungry and it was sauteed in butter... or bacon grease. Gotta love bacon grease!
Honey, We did run out of shelf space recently, and then I saw an ad in the paper for a day care that was having a going out of business sale. My sweet hunk of a husband drove 3 hours to get 2 great bookshelves and a little table with 4 chairs for me! Is it any wonder I love that guy?
Just have to share - the kids all just got back from Spring Break today. I dismiss them in unusual ways - the color of shoelaces they're wearing, where they have traveled, how many siblings they have. Today, I dismissed them by unusual foods -- one girl just got back from her aunt's house where they made her try snails. She said, "it was worth trying once, but I wouldn't choose it again."
I should never has asked.
ROTLF!! Gotta love those babies - YUCK on the wad-o-snails. Hubbers doesn't understand the intrinsic "gross-ness" of snails, either...
