Diaper Changing Tips

Stumble Upon Toolbar

Recently, I have been thinking to myself, "Smockity, what do you have of value to offer your readers, your peeps?"  and after a lengthy period of saying, partially out loud, "Uuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmm..." you will be happy to know that I came up with something!

I concluded that I have been changing diapers, pretty much non stop, for almost 15 years! During that time, I have refined and streamlined my diaper changing techniques, and I have come to think of it not so much as a chore (most days), but as a way to show love to my baby.

Here is a little video demonstration of my diaper changing tips.  (This was the second take because the first one had babies crying, dogs barking, the doorbell ringing, and an 8 year old peering creepily from behind the shower curtain, and I only wish I were making that up.)

Bonus points to the first person who can identify the song!

I believe the song is "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey! =)

Awesome! Great video demonstration! I am guilty of using way too many wipes!!!!!!! It just grosses me out when I use any less than three on major poopy diapers. Now that I switched to cloth however, I don't feel so guilty about it because I just wash them :)

LOL, Great video! I must say I'm having quite the opportunity to "fine tune" my diaper changing attitude at the moment with two babies that are not feeling so hot. I thought I'd ask if you've had a baby yet that won't lay still....like she twist's and does some sort of acrobatic thing and ends up upside down in the middle of changing a stinky diaper? Our fourth has been like this for quite some time now, and it has been quite the challenge, although I must say sometimes the singing or something to hold helps, but most of the time not.

Oh, my goodness, was that every funny! And Journey was the best. Of course, now I don't listen to it. And I want to see the first take, with the creepy shower guy! My kids and I also love your accent! I thought you said you were from Smockity Frogs at first!

Hooray for Jen L! You got the song! Now hang on to that feelin...

Sarah, I don't know if this is the advice you are looking for, but I have been known to smack a little hiney and give a firm, "No!" when a baby does that. They learn pretty quickly not to do it.

It was great to hear from you! But.....I don't hear any accent. That's just talking. :)

What I really want to know is HOW you put your hair up that beautifully. I really, really need to learn this.

I was waiting for you to use that little fish net...you are much more southern then previously believed!

Holly said...

Yes. We were all waiting for the fish net to come into play as well. ("All of us being most of the family....")

I thought, too, that perhaps we would see the babydoll fly into the shower at some point...but I see that you were only giving SERIOUS and REAL hints. :)

You're too cute, Connie. It was nice to hear your voice. :)

Amy said...

Well THAT certainly was fun!
I'm with Brenda... accent? what accent??? ;)

I love the baby oil tip. I will definitely be trying that!

Oh, laughing very hard! :-) Thank you for setting a good example by having a good attitude towards changing the dirty diapers. I LOVE the toothbrush idea. I've always given my babies a small toy, but the toothbrush makes so much more sense! And LOL on the corn--I just served it tonight at dinner and one of my first thoughts was, "Oh, this will make for an interesting diaper tomorrow morning!" :-)

Lene said...

Jerri, come on down and visit for a while - you can take your pick of kids to change :).

Smockity, love the baby oil tip - I'm going to have to try that. However, I will have to refrain from handing my child a toothbrush while changing his dirty diapers for 2 reasons:
1. He will think it is a sword and whack me with it.
2. I have only 6 years under my belt and am not fast enough to keep it from getting in the middle of the dirty diaper!
We only use really cleanable things or sometimes I let him hold a wipe :).

More videos - that was great!!

how funny... on your last statement in the video I always would say that to one of my boys when he was older and still messing in his pants! /that day may come... LOL

GREAT video! I had to LOL about your reason for take two...that SO sounds like my house. That's why I've never tried a vlog! And yes, I too challenge myself to use only one or two wipes per diaper change. Love it.

I loved that video! I've been a mom for over 28 years (I've ten children)and I once calculated how many thousands of diapers I have changed.

One day, I was told that everything one does in obedience to God is worship (Romans 12:1-2) presenting our bodies as living sacrifices is our spiritual worship. So when I changed a poopy diaper it was my worship. Realizing this, I began to sing as I changed my baby's diaper, "This is my worship!" (it doesn't work so well since you can't hear the tune) and little Abigail would sing, "Yeah! Yeah!" Too cute!

Anyway, I do appreciate your posts. The first one I ever read had me laughing my head off so that the children in the other room came to see if I was all right!

That's so good, i wish that i had that video demo when my children where small. Keep it up.

Loved the integration of classic rock in the diaper changing video. Now I've got my song for the day. My little guy tends to eat dirt, so he definitely has some gritty diapers. My midwife gave me the oil tip with newborns and that really difficult "first poop." We actually use OLIVE OIL for that!

I keep seeing your blog pop up on other people's McLinky lists, but this is the first day I hopped over here. I love your blog and have been here for at least an hour now!

This particular post, with the video, is not only hilarious, but right on the mark. Not to mention that my 9yo daughter popped out of the van a few weeks ago and immediately announced to the strangers in the vehicle next to us that "My mom only lets us shower about once a month!" Wha??? I have no idea why she said such a thing and was flabbergasted. So, to hear you say that your kids would tell neighbors they only bathe every three weeks was hilarious to me. I had never heard of a kid saying such a thing until mine did. Thank you for being normal!

So funny! I've lurked for probably a couple years now, but I just had to comment on this one! I have five children and never thought of using the baby oil like that! AAAARRRGH! With two in diapers right now, that tip alone made watching the video worthwhile! Made me wish I knew you in real life. Our kids could discuss their lack of baths together.

Jenny said...

I can't wait to stop changing diapers. My son is five yrs old and still can't stop going in his pants.

But your post is funny :P Loved it.

*Mirage* said...

Ohak I laughed my way through that! Too funny! And I love the toothbrush idea! My 1 year old somehow has his hands on his tush scraping the poo off with his fingernails before I've even got the diaper all the way off. He's teething his canines right now so a toothbrush would be a perfect thing to keep him busy! And the baby oil... Why didn't I think of that?! My kids occasionally get that gritty sand poo that you keep wiping and it just rolls around on their bottom and won't come off on the wipe and it drives me bonkers. I use baby oil to remove the stickies left by bandaids (or the residue from wayward Dora stickers that have been left on my kitchen floor or the living room windows or the tv screen...) so it totally makes sense. Thank you for the laugh and the good tips! :D

This was so "STINKIN" clever! I thought as a mama to quadruplets I had it all down, but you a couple of suggestions that I'm going to put to practice in about 5 minutes. =) 4-8 stinkies a day in my house! Lots of tender moments to save up for the nursing home days!
