"How to Remove Melted Crayon From the Clothes Dryer" must get a lot of Google searches. I know when I had occasion to search it last week, I found tons of information.
I really needed the information in two parts: How to Remove Melted Crayon from Clothes and How to Remove Melted Crayon from the Dryer.
I sorted through most of the information I found and here are the methods that I found worked best:
Removing Melted Crayon From the Dryer
- Pitch a hissy fit because HOW many times do you have to tell the cleaning lady to check the pockets, for crying out loud?!
- Remember that you are the cleaning lady and be thankful that your hissy fit didn't make it "public" before you remembered.
- Scrape off as much crayon from the dryer drum as you can with a butter knife.
- Use a new fabric softener sheet to scrub the rest off. I don't know why this works, but I tried plenty of other methods and this one was a winner. The crayon came right off.
Removing Melted Crayon From Clothes
- Soak the clothes overnight in a generous amount of Oxi Clean and vinegar.
- Add detergent and wash on "heavy duty".
- Check clothes. Some will need more soaking and another wash.
- Soak again as in #1.
- Wash again as in #2.

:( Poor Connie! I'm sure that some time very soon I'll want to yell at my cleaning lady for not checking pockets before washing clothes too. But after I remember I don't have one, I'll be glad I just read this!
I wonder if that second part would work for candle wax? So far I've only tried scraping, but it's going to take more than that. I'll have to try the crayon / vinegar / oxiclean method on it!
(And lets not discuss the bad parenting that allowed candle wax to get on my preschooler's shirt, 'kay? Thanks!) :)
My boys are out of the crayon stage, but we had an incident with gum this summer and the "whole" baseball teams pants. I washing for the team at a tournament. Not good!

LOL I've never had this problem. Then again we use the public laundry so if that happen's, it's their problem. Not mine. ;)

Hehe... thank you! I have not had this problem yet but I only have 2 kids and they are 1 and 3 so I have alot of years and possibly alot more kids to go before I'm "safe." Then there's grandkids...

amy, i've had candle wax on a tablecloth and have removed it by putting a paper sack over the wax and ironing it; the iron melts the wax and the paper soaks it up -- good luck!!

I saw something similar to what I am going to say in a previous comment, but it is a good trick so I am reinforcing it. When I want to get wax out of something I lay the item over a paper towel and iron the back. The heat from the iron melts the wax, which is then absorbed by the paper towel. But I am sure you can then proceed with your method to get any residue off. Thanks so much for posting this!
