Weekly Wrap Up

Stumble Upon Toolbar

This is the first time I have participated in the Weekly Wrap Up at Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers. Get ready for the excitement that was our week.

The first thing that happened this week was shipping our two oldest off to church camp. It was our first time ever to send anyone to camp, so this whole Missing Them Like Crazy thing is new. They weren't allowed to take cell phones or other electronic devices (not that they have any) so we weren't able to communicate at all. I finally figured out half way through the week how to send them emails, so I've been sending messages from "The Queen Mother" "Mother Superior" and "The Queen of England".

In order to get them to the bus on time, we had to attend early worship service at church, which meant leaving our house completely dressed and coiffed at 7:30. A.M! I am happy to report that we made it to the church on time, which is important to us, as you know if you have read how I feel about being on time.

There was much swimming and sweating this week since the temperatures have remained in the triple digits here. Once, at the pool, the baby saw a boy about our boy's age and shouted, "BUBBA!" We said, "No, that's not Bubba. Bubba is not here, but he's coming back." I don't think she believed us though. She kept eyeballing that poor kid the whole time we were there.

The days have seemed quiet and lonely with only five children at home. We've eaten most of our meals at our smaller table.

On Wednesday, we went to church again and I sought out the other mothers who were missing their kids at camp, too. We compared notes about missing them and quiet houses and looked forward to Friday evening when we would be picking them up.

On the way home from church, we stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things. My husband was planning to run in to get the goods while we waited in the van. He pulled in nose to nose with a car with a man standing beside it. As my husband was exiting the van, we both noticed a police car parked behind the other car, blocking it in. We remarked that someone must be getting a ticket and my husband went on his way.

It soon became apparent, though, that it was NOT a simple traffic violation. Another police car pulled up and then another. Two officers were talking to the man, who seemed agitated and defensive.

All of this commotion, naturally, interested the renegade monkeys, so they all unbuckled to gawk and add their commentary to the unfolding drama.

An officer asked the man to follow his finger without moving his head, walk in a straight line while counting (this seemed particularly confusing to the man), and stand on one leg.

All the while, the comments from the peanut gallery were flying at top VOLUME and sounded something like this:

"IS THAT MAN IN TROUBLE? WHY IS HE COUNTING? IS HE GOING TO JAIL? ARE THEY GOING TO PUT HANDCUFFS ON HIM? WHY DOESN'T HE RUN AWAY? STANDING ON ONE LEG IS HARD! I BET I WOULD FALL IF I HAD TO DO THAT! IS HE DRUNK? WHY IS HE DRUNK? WHY ARE THE POLICE TAKING THAT BIG BOTTLE FROM HIS CAR? WHY ARE THEY MAKING HIM POUR IT OUT?"

I thought my husband would never come out of the store and I felt kind of sorry for the man who probably just wanted to be arrested and locked up far, far away from ALL THE QUESTIONS.

My husband came out about the time the whole thing was wrapping up and we finally headed home and had some good discussions about good choices and bad choices, only to find, once we got home, that the dogs had decided to dig in the trash can, which included four light bulbs we had changed that day.

BAD CHOICE!

There was glass everywhere from the broken light bulbs.

(Didn't I tell you this wrap up would be riveting?)

Thursday included more swimming and sweating, although the temperature only reached 99 since we had a cool front blow in. For real.

I also had to give the three year old a hair cut because of a serious mullet she was developing from taking out her own pony tails.

And that brings us to today, Friday. We are getting the dogs groomed and PICKING UP THE BIG KIDS. WAHOO!

If you made it to the end of this post, I commend you. There will be a little quiz later, so please bring a number two pencil and be ready to answer 100 questions.

Thank you and that is all.

I made it to the end! It was much more interesting than MY post. I'm most impressed with the fact that you all made it to church, completely dressed, on time at 7:30 in the morning. You are my role model. ;-)

Thanks for joining the Wrap-Up this week!

be ready for the mountain of laundry that will come home with the kids tonight -- somehow they seem to have twice as many dirty clothes from a week at camp than they would in a week at home!

hope they had a great time!

I hope they had fun at camp! My older daughter could have gone in 2nd grade!!! Second grade???? No thank you.

I cannot imagine, but one day I suppose it will come....I'm having a lot of trouble thinking about "youth group." I really am.

I can only imagine how much you missed your kiddos. My Biggest went to a 3hr/day day camp last week and even that was tough :)
