Will you still be my friend if I tell you that the Fourth of July is not one of my favorite holidays?
I LOVE what it stands for. I LOVE the history and the music and the food and the parades and the festivities. I just think it would be ever so much more comfortable if it were held in October. You just cannot get much hotter than asphalt in July deep in the heart of Texas.
Secondly, the main attraction begins at approximately dark thirty, and if you have kids who wake up at early thirty and begin asking "How much longer until the fireworks?" at early thirty-four, it makes for a mighty long day. And by mighty long I mean that I am contemplating altering our calendar next year so that June has 35 days and no one is the wiser when July 4th sneaks right by.
So. In summation, I would appreciate if the Fourth of July would henceforth be held in October. At 3:30 or as soon as nap time is over.

Ha, I hear ya on this one. However, I was in wonderful West TX where it rained and cooled off everything with a nice breeze so it was fantastic this year. While there I was over at my grandma's house, the one whose maiden name is Hughes and as we were talking she reminded one of my cousins that she was one of seven, six girls and one boy. I just had to smile that I currently know another family with the name Hughes in that same situation. Isn't that so weird? Funny, thing is they all called their one brother "brother" and all of their kids called him "uncle brother". Anyway, just had to share such a random thing.

So true! I am in western Arkansas and its not THAT much cooler here. Although it did rain a bunch and cool things off. My 5 old saw lightning and said God was celebrating 4th of July too! too cute.
Yes! What were the founding fathers thinking? Couldn't they wait and declare independence like close to Thanksgiving? lol
I mostly agree except that October is still stinking hot so I would suggest April. Typically all the grass and trees aren't dead yet and it usually isn't awful hot (may gets a little iffy). Although, if it could be scheduled before the spring time change then that would work even better. Since only 2 of the signers actually signed it on the 4th it is just a symbolic date anyway.
I ALWAYS thought they picked a terrible time for July 4th. I am with you on the move to October.
Amen sister! We stayed at home in the A/C this year in protest of the hot weather.
We also had the pleasure of attending an outdoor wedding on Friday evening. It was a very good lesson for my 13 and 15 year old girls, who did not try to argue with me when I told them, "You may NOT have an outdoor wedding in any month that does not have an R in it!"

yeah, only you cannot see the fireworks at 3:30. except for that i am with you on the july thing. i "dint" participate this year until right before it got dark.
