I remember going to my Paw Paw's funeral four years ago and meeting back at the house after it was over. All of my Paw Paw's favorite people were there telling their best stories about him. There was laughter and tears and I remember thinking that he would have LOVED to have been there.
I had that same feeling this weekend, without the tears.
My sweet friend, Michele, threw me a "Welcome Back" party on Saturday. Since I grew up in this area and we have lived around here a couple of different times before, I have friends from all over who came to celebrate our being back.
She brought her wonderful cinnamon rolls, made from freshly ground wheat and I made this cute little cheese ball. (See bottom for recipe.)
Michele had everyone tell how they met me and share a memory of some meaningful time together. My mother began since she has known me the longest and everyone followed in order from there.
I had friends there that I have known for over 35 years! And they still like me!
I felt like I was at my own funeral, except for the being dead part. I got to enjoy all of my favorite people in the same room saying nice things about me!
I'll admit, I felt a little spoiled and just a touch embarrassed to hear so many people talking about me, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world!
It was a wonderful day. Thank you, friends!
*Cheese Ball Recipe
2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese
3/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (4 oz)
1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (I used Colby Jack and mild Cheddar)
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce (I used about 2 Tbsp.)

It was a fun day! Especially the not being dead part. I found myself thinking, "I didn't know that about her" during the memories of others, but in this case I didn't have to add my other funeral thought, which is "I wish I'd known that when she was alive."

I'm so glad we could all share how much we love you...and your sweet family!
That's a wonderful gift Connie - what a blessing! I am sure you will remember the kindness of your friends and their love for you for a long time to come - and on days when you loose the baby in shampoo bubbles, you can think of all the people who love you!
Traci, The penguins are 1 large olive (the body) and 1 small olive(head). Slit the large one and fill with cream cheese. (I mix in a little milk with the cream cheese to make it easier to handle.) Use a carrot slice with a wedge cut out for the feet and the wedge becomes the beak. Secure with a frilled toothpick. Or a regular one if you're Klassy. (I never can find the frilled ones when I need them!)
I'm so glad you moved back "home". Even though the panhandle misses you:)
