We outgrew our little farm table a few kids ago, but we were given some benches, so we shuffled the chairs, added the benches, and just kept squeezing kids in closer together.
When we moved, we donated those rickety benches and have been eating meals in shifts ever since.
A few weeks ago, though, we got a brand new table that will seat FOURTEEN!
We have lovingly caressed our table and looked at it longingly and admired it out loud. But we haven't eaten around it because we didn't actually have any chairs to sit in at the table.
And we have this thing about sitting down to eat. We like to do it.
So, recently my husband struck up a deal with one of his patrons who is an expert woodworker. They would trade golf lessons for benches to match our new table!
The kind gentleman came last week to look over the table and take some measurements, and then he left and set to work.
Imagine our excitement when my husband came home from work today WITH THE BENCHES!
I had no idea that we would get them today, but I had prepared roast beef with potatoes and carrots for dinner, so we had ourselves a nice meal TOGETHER for the first time in months at our brand new table.
I couldn't help thinking of all the wonderful blessings God has bestowed upon us, undeserving as we are.
And we thanked Him heartily.

Really? 14? It looks big but I can't imagine 14 there! SO glad you can sit down and eat together. How many of us take that for granted?
its great! So glad for you. :)
Something as simple as eating together is such a blessed thing and what a great table! And benches!
I love the bartering idea ;)
AWWWWWWWWESOME! I am so jealous. Although, I don't quite need a table for 14 yet. I am trying to figure out how five kids in carseats and boosters will fit in our mini-van. I imagine one day my oldest will be tall and heavy enough not to need a booster.
I have pined (*giggle*) for a new table for some time now. Oddly, just before I woke up this morning I dreampt that D and I found one at a road side sale one day! (Then had buyers remorse before we even got half way home!)
Eating in shifts can not be fun...I am SO GLAD that you are all back at the same table!
Enjoy!!! :)
Brenda,
It's hard to tell from the picture, but all 7 kids can fit on one side. There must be some kind of defect with me camera. I KNOW it can't be my subpar photography skills!
I'll bet that is one LONG table! Enjoy!
That is awesome!! Eating together is such a blessing. Enjoy:) Oh, and I nominated you for an award!
That is fantastic...family meals are so worthwhile, eating in shifts couldn't have been fun! Truly it is a blessing...enjoy...
Yay for the new table! And yay for bartering! :)
I enjoyed the pic. Too bad about your defective camera. ;)
Yay, I'm so happy for you...all of you! :-)
Wow, God is good. What a blessing on so many levels.
