To the dear folks at Chex Cereal,
We have loved you over the years, Chex, for the versatile recipes you have provided us. A little bit of salty, a little bit of sweet, lots of crunch. What could be better?
Years ago, you called our favorite recipe "Puppy Chow". Now, you have changed the name to "Muddy Buddies". You have a winner on your hands. Because peanut butter? And chocolate? Coated in powdered sugar? Packed with a crunch? That's a combination no one can resist.
I would, however, like to address the issue of labeling this delicious treat.
It's not that I am unsympathetic to the challenges of naming a brand new creation. Heaven knows, every couple of years we, in the Smockity Family, are racking our noggins to come up with a "label" for a bundle of beauty ourselves.
It's just that, frankly, and I think I speak for the crowd here, the thought of eating DOG FOOD pretty much rivals putting a handful of mud in my mouth for gross out factor.
This is such a yummy treat I think its name deserves more consideration. How about "Crunchy Peanutty-Choco Bits"? Or "Squares O' Choc-Nut Butter"?
I'll just bet, if we put our minds to it, we can come up with a name fitting for the delicious recipe that has warmed our hearts and filled our tummies all these many years.
Sincerely,
**Smockity Readers: How about pitching in with your suggestions for re-naming this treat?

Well, where I grew up in Arkansas, it is called "White Trash"! :)
I dunno... I always liked calling it puppy chow. I guess it appeals to my slightly twisted sense of humor. Course, I like to serve dirt cake too. In a flower pot. With flowers. And worms (gummy).
Puppy Chow it is around here, too. :)
But wow...now I'll have to re-think that. :)
Did you know they sell Scooby Snacks that are shaped like doggy treat bones? For kids, not for dogs? Now, that kinda grosses me out. :)
I call it 'dog food.'
My kids and now my grandkids have grown up eating "Puppy Chow" and they would be mighty disappointed if I did not have "Puppy Chow" here for Christmas. In fact, I sometimes think that is the only reason my older grandchildren COME for Christmas--for the "Puppy Chow!" They just would not recognize it with any other name! And they can really plow through a batch in record time--by any name!
Why on earth are they changing it? Silly.
It's 'Puppy Chow' down here too and always will be, regardless of what 'they' want to do ;-)
Mmmmm... I love that stuff. I think I need to make some to go in a Christmas tin as soon as possible!
We've always called it Puppy Chow. What else could it be??? Snowman food?
Snowman Sweet Squares?
Mmm. Makes me want some!
we call it craque.
