My Big Fat Redneck Life (And an Update)

Stumble Upon Toolbar

(Check back later today for the smocked bonnet drawing!)

Have y'all seen the scene from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" when the in-laws-to-be are invited to dinner? They think they are going to an intimate dinner party to meet their son's future in-laws, and they show up to see a pig being roasted on a spit in the front yard, surrounded by 100 or so of the bride's family members.

That is my absolute favorite part of the whole movie! I have told my husband before that we are the fun loving, big fat Greek family roasting the pig in our front yard, metaphorically speaking, of course.

The folks who look at us with disbelief, saying, "Oh dear! They are at it again! This time it's a dog obedience show in their front yard!" are the uptight in-laws.

That is what makes our recent acquisition all the more meaningful. This is what is parked in our driveway, until it can find it's rightful place in our backyard. (Click on the photo to enlarge.)

Roasted pig, anyone?

*Update: MaddieLynn reminded me that this baby bird was not the last one we "saved". There was this one that was a fledgling when we found it. We only intended to observe it for a while and let it go. Unfortunately, our dog had different plans, more along the lines of the plans a killer whale has for a seal. (Think: Toss, fetch, and repeat.)

It was during the rehabilitation period that we recommitted to our No "Saving" policy.

**Special note to Parks and Wildlife people: Please, don't prosecute!
