For this week's Works For Me Wednesday, Shannon has asked everyone to stick to a theme. She describes it this way:
It's 5:15 pm, the kids are hungry, you have a headache, hubby is almost home, and the pantry has three things in it. What is your BEST last-minute meal recipe? Share with everybody this week. We'll call it Works-For-Me Wednesday: The What-Do-I-Fix? Edition.
One of the standard dinners I fall back on when I am out of time, out of ingredients, or just plain out of ideas is what we call "Macaroni Spaghetti". It is super simple and has only 3 ingredients that we almost always have on hand.
1 Box Mac and Cheese
1 jar of Spaghetti Sauce
1 lb. cooked ground beef
Make the Mac and Cheese as directed, add in the spaghetti sauce and ground beef. Simmer for a few minutes to heat through and let the flavors combine.
Sprinkle a little shredded cheddar on each serving if you like. We toast bread under the broiler that we have spread with butter, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese, and cut into squares. Add a Honeymooners Salad (lettuce alone - Get it?) to the table and WAH-LAH! Dinner is served!
That's what works for me when I need a last minute meal. Check out some more great ideas at Rocks in my Dryer.

i haven't ever done it with spaghetti sauce but i've added a couple cups of salsa to the mac and cheese...i'll have to try the italian tomato instead of the mexican one! thanks:-)
Oh, that sounds like a good one! Yummy!
Wow. That sounds interesting. I think I have all of that stuff...I may make it for dinner tomorrow!

Glad to see the little one is hanging in there longer, although I know you must be getting anxious.
OK, so I love mac and cheese AND spaghetti. I can't wait to try this. I bet my little guy will love it, too!
That is a nice easy recipe and I'm sure can be frozen easily too! I'm very lazy so I like to make double and freeze!
What a neat meal idea! But how did you get bread and salad too? I feel like such a bozo, I couldn't think of anything to make with just three ingredients that would be balanced! LOL!
Thank you for the well wishes, Mommy Cracked. I am definitely ready to walk without waddling!
Melissa, I should have added "if you have it" about the bread and salad. Sometimes we don't have any on hand.
Interesting! I haven't tried it with spaghetti sauce. I grew up eating it with tomato soup mixed in - fix two boxes like directions say, stir in one can of condensed tomato soup. My husband thinks that's weird, but it's comfort food to me!
genius! pure genius!
