About Her Name

Stumble Upon Toolbar

Several people have asked us about the name we chose for our baby, so here's the scoop.

Emeline (the last syllable rhyming with "wine") is a name that was popular in 18th century England (so we have read.) Emelyn (last syllable rhyming with "win") is a variation on that name. Think - Caroline/Carolyn.

We say it like we say "Evelyn", with the first syllable being stressed and sounding like the letter name "M".

We don't say "Emma-Lynn" just as you wouldn't say, "Carol-Lynn" for "Carolyn". We say, "EMelyn" except for Katie Bug, who calls her "Emlem".

Is anyone still reading this?

I'm still working on putting together the story of her birth and making it shorter than 13 pages. I'm also trying to figure out how to write it so as not to gross out my Father-in-law, who occasionally reads this blog.

Here's a teaser, though. It was the longest 3 days of my life.

Huh? What?

Oh, my husband reminds me that it was actually only 20 hours.

Whatever.

It sure felt like 3 or 8 days to me!

She is beautiful and I love the name!! Arrie ran a low grade fever with runny nose Friday night so I thought we better stay clear of you and your little one. We can't wait to meet her though. I've been told that those babies that take the longest to arrive will grow up to have the most patience...or the most stubborn as I have found:) Keep warm!!!

Congrats on the new babe!! I love her name. I am partial to the "lyn or line" names. Just found out we are expecting #4.

Love the picture & love the name! She is precious any way you look at it. :)
I was reading along about the coming birth story thinking "shorten it!? no way - bring on the details!" and then got to the father-in-law part. Okay. I have to agree with you there. There are definitely some things anybody with an "in-law"" (or even "father" for that matter) in there name just shold not know. No matter how close you are! :)

Congratulations on your littlest new one!! I guess I didn't realize you were so close to due. That will teach ME to read more, won't it?

Congratulations on your beautiful girl.
