The Wind
I saw you toss the kites on high,
And blow the birds about the sky;
And all around I heard you pass,
Like ladies' skirts across the grass-
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!
I saw the different things you did,
But always you yourself you hid.
I felt you push, I heard you call,
I could not see yourself at all-
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!
O you that are so strong and cold,
O blower are you young or old?
Are you a beast of field and tree,
Or just a stronger child than me?
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!
From a Railway Carriage
Faster than fairies, faster than witches,
Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches;
And charging along like troops in a battle,
All through the meadows the horses and cattle:
All of the sights of the hill and the plain
Fly as thick as driving rain;
And ever again, in the wink of an eye,
Painted stations whistle by.
Here is a child who clambers and scrambles,
All by himself and gathering brambles;
Here is a tramp who stands and gazes;
And there is the green for stringing the daisies!
Here is a cart run away in the road
Lumping along with man and load;
And here is a mill and there is a river:
Each a glimpse and gone forever!

Thank you for the great poems -- especially From a Railway Carriage! If you have never heard this to music, then I would HIGHLY encourage you to visit this site -
http://cdbaby.com/cd/bonnierideout5
And listen to a sample of it!! (it's #9) We have this on cassette (got it years ago!) and have enjoyed it more times than we can count. Bonnie Rideout is incredible -- as well as Mr. Stevenson. ;-)
Denise,
From a Railway Carriage is one of my favorites and I actually have both of the poems I put up and a lot more on 2 poem songs CD's that I got for my birthday.
Are you all still sick???
Praying for you! (Tell your mama I said so!)
Maddielynn,
What are the CD's you have? I'd love to know!
The CD's I have are both by a company called "Music for Little People", and the one with the poems that I posted on it is called "A Child's Garden of Verses". I'm not sure what the other one is called because I'm not sure where it is right now!:-) I wrote that other comment before I went to your link and the music on the song there is alot different than the music on my CD for that song.
