Deviled Eggs

Stumble Upon Toolbar

Whenever our family enjoys a fellowship meal with the members of our congregation after worship services, we always make sure our children understand that we will let all of the elderly members go first. We do this because of these two scriptures:

Leviticus 19:32Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.

Proverbs 16:31The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

"Hoary" in these two verses means gray. So, we point out that this means old people with gray hair deserve our respect, especially if they have lived a life of righteousness. Sometimes, we tell them, old people color their hair, so they must look for other signs; wrinkles, grandchildren, walks with a cane, etc.

We have lots of hoary heads in our congregation and that means one thing at a fellowship meal: deviled eggs! We love deviled eggs, but by the time we get to go through the line, they are usually all gone.

Just the other day, my husband was saying he thought he was finally going to get one deviled egg at the fellowship meal, but, alas, when he got to the food, all the deviled eggs were gone.

He went out of town on business shortly after this disappointment, and when he got back I had these waiting for him:

I am so happy. AT LAST, a kindred spirit who feels the way that I do about letting the elderly go first. I hear the angels singing a tune!!!

What a sweet, sweet gesture for your husband! I believe it's the little things such as these that endear us to our spouses.

How sweet, and heart shaped to boot!

It is such a wonderful moment to see the faces of the elderly light up when they are honored in this way!

I love the heart. Is it new?

Why is it we can eat unlimited numbers of deviled eggs? We could never eat so many eggs fixed any other style...

I make 2 dozen eggs (48 halves) for my family, and someone is always complaining that they are gone when they go back for [thirds?]

we love "angel" eggs too! eating them is like eating finger sandwiches. when you total them up you actually have eaten more than you would if you made yourself a plate of lunch i.e. a (ONE) sandwich! i can eat four or five tea sandwiches no problem! that equals to almost two whole sandwiches. but i would never eat two sandwiches for lunch! isn't that crazy??? once at a tea party i made a whole loaf of bread's worth of tea sandwiches thinking there would be some leftover... HA! well, they are super tasty and miniature things are so fun to eat. i guess that's why i thought of tea sandwiches when you posted about those yummy eggs!
