Plackets Plus!

Stumble Upon Toolbar

Here are a couple of photos of the sweet little dress I wrote about yesterday. Please, pay no mind to how close that drooling dog snout is to my precious baby's face. Or the fact that she seems to want to eat said snout.

Do you see that strip in the back where the buttons would be? THAT is the placket.

I am resting easy today knowing that the general public apparently has no idea what a placket is. Though, Jaynee wins the prize for Most Original Guess, which was a "plush jacket". Good one, Jaynee. Shoot me an email with your address and I'll put that $500 Home Depot gift card in the mail.

Just kidding. I would totally spend a Home Depot gift card myself if I had one. But, wouldn't it be neat if you could win a prize for not knowing seldom used sewing terms?

In placket related news, I did remember last night that my smocking instructor gave me this bit of wisdom when I lamented to her, years ago, that I never could get my plackets just right, "Dear, if someone notices that, they are too close to your child!"

So, there you have it straight from Miss Pauline. If you notice any deficiencies in my plackets, STEP OFF! That's right, you're too close. Just back away.

And if anyone doubts the level of difficulty in sewing a placket, here is a 3 hr. instructional course dedicated to sewing them. (Scroll to the bottom. Go on. You know how much you want to sign up.)

Also, here is more about plackets than you will ever need to know.

And, this brings to a close the post with more mentions of the word "placket" than you will find anywhere else on the World Wide Web today.

Now, excuse me while I go study that last link.

The dress is beautiful!! I pulled my sewing machine out the other day and there it sat for a week and nothing got done. I sadly put it back in the closet for some time when Little One doesn't want to nurse every two hours and tear apart the house during the in between times:) Yes, I know I only have three...you'd think I could get it together!

Would it make you feel any better if I told you I can't even sew a button on???

Ok, I am still confused about what a placket is and if it has any purpose whatsoever. (I passed home ec only because they averaged my grade with my shop class grade.)But, the little dress is cute and the baby adorable.

Oh, sweet, sweet baby. :)

I don't want to brag...but I knew what a placket was. :) Really. You doubt me? :)

What a gorgeous dress! :)

Love the dress! And I hate to say it too but, like Lene, I still don't get what the purpose is of the placket? Although I didn't study the links yet so maybe I should wait and ask later..

I knew if we waited, there would be a placket post. :)
